El Museo del Barrio in collaboration with Higuayagua Taino luku Kairi and Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble invite you to a day celebrating Taino art and culture! Activities across the museum will be led by Higuayagua Taino luku Kairi, a tribal group/organization dedicated to research and the dissemination of Caribbean indigenous cultures. The group will share engaging activities throughout the day with a focus on language, dance, material culture, spirituality, and storytelling.

This day of community and celebration will culminate with a performance by Higuayagua and a concert featuring Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble. This special edition will feature artists with Taíno roots and explores questions of indigenous identity and history. Connections between the indigenous people of Boriquen, Quisqueya, and Cuba will be illustrated musically. Art making activities and gallery tours of the exhibition Something Beautiful: Reframing La Colección will be led by El Museo’s educators throughout the day. All ages welcome.
