OtherWorlds Fair
Beam Center’s OtherWorlds Fair is a brand-new free festival on Governors Island designed and run by NYC public high school students. Produced in collaboration with Beam Center, OtherWorlds Fair offers people of all ages hands-on workshops, exhibits and performances in Fashion, Food, Storytelling, Design and Music that showcase the joyous fusion of cultures, identities and creative visions of today’s New York City teenagers.
FREE ADMISSION registration required; Workshops for adults and kids 7 years old and up
Building on Beam Center’s 14-year tradition of public festivals celebrating creativity and collaboration, OtherWorlds Fair will feature interactive workshops to engage people of all ages (7 years old and up) and performances and exhibits.

PAINTING WITH BLEACH
Create exquisite custom tote bags and learn a new creative medium using one of the most common household materials – Bleach!

STORYTELLING BRACELETS
Walk away with stylish jewelry that tells a story in just 10 letters crafted from beads you make from recycled magazines.

FOOD & PLANT PRINTMAKING
Ink up and recombine textures from marigolds, island flowers, apples, oranges, potatoes and more to adorn textile accessories.

FLOWER BABY HUNT
Follow a path of riddles in a hunt for pewter cast insects hidden around the fairgrounds. Return them to the anthropomorphic Flower Creature and make a Wildflower Seed Bomb as a reward!

Build personalized percussion instruments and learn to use them to compose your own beats and dances.
