Music and Astronomy Under the Stars
Dr. Donald Lubowich, senior research associate and coordinator of the Astronomy Outreach program at Hofstra University, brings the stars to concertgoers at “Music and Astronomy Under the Stars,” a series of events at local outdoor concerts this summer. The 2025 program is funded by the Sierra Club, Long Island Group.
There will be solar telescope observations during concert intermissions and following each event. Dr. Lubowich will assist members of the public as they view the Moon, Mars, Mercury, multicolored double stars, star clusters, and nebulae. Information will also be provided on preserving and protecting the night sky and ways to minimize light pollution.
Look for Dr. Lubowich at the following concerts:
- Sunday, July 13, 7 p.m., featuring ’70s, ’80s, ’90s cover band Decadia. North Hempstead Beach Park, 175 W. Shore Road, Port Washington, New York.

Since 2009, Music and Astronomy Under the Stars has brought star-viewing to tens of thousands of music lovers at Long Island parks and to the Newport Folk, Tanglewood, and Ravinia music festivals with the assistance of local astronomy clubs. The Amateur Observers’ Society of New York is a partner of this year’s program.
Music and Astronomy Under the Stars is one of many events highlighting Hofstra’s commitment to community engagement, one of the four pillars of the Hofstra 100 strategic plan.
