MLK Day 2024 at Museum of the Moving Image
Celebrate the birthday of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Sunday 1/14 (2-5PM) with a talk, tours, media-making activities, and more.
With a special introduction, Senator Kristen Gonzalez will kick off this day of programming, in which visitors can join a conversation with teens about their advocacy and community service; create animations and other media inspired the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and explore a tour or participate in a scavenger hunt game inside the Behind the Screen exhibition, discovering the connections between moving image history and Black people’s fight for freedom during the Civil Rights Movement.
Followed by a screening of King: A Filmed Record… Montgomery to Memphis on Monday 1/15 (1-4PM)
Rare footage of King’s speeches, protests, and arrests are interspersed with scenes of other high-profile supporters and opponents of the cause, punctuated by heartfelt testimonials by some of Hollywood’s biggest stars.
