Martin Luther King, Jr. Family Day 2026

January 18, 2 pm.
$10–$20

Celebrate the birthday of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with digital media-making activities and tours. The March on Washington, led by King and other civil rights leaders in 1963, was a day when Americans stood together to call for equal rights and an end to discrimination. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 followed soon after, banning discrimination in jobs and ending segregation in public places.

In the Museum’s education center, visitors are invited to create animations and immersive, virtual reality drawings inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to join a free Museum tour (RSVP required due to limited space).

Visitors can also participate in a scavenger hunt game inside the Museum’sBehind the Screen exhibition, discovering the connections between moving image history and Black people’s fight for freedom during the Civil Rights Movement.
