Little New-Yorkers: So Tall Within: Sojourner Truth’s Long Walk Toward Freedom
The New-York Historical Society’s new exhibition Women’s Work explores and celebrates all the roles, jobs, and positions women have held throughout history and features a picture of Sojourner Truth. Our Little New-Yorkers group will read the picture book, So Tall Within: Sojourner Truth’s Long Walk Toward Freedom, written by Gary D. Schmidt and illustrated by Daniel Minter. Sojourner escaped her enslavers and went on to gain her legal freedom in 1827. Throughout her life, she worked towards the abolition of slavery and advocated for the rights of women and all Black Americans. After the story, make you own night sky paintings inspired by Daniel Minter’s illustrations.
