Lincoln Center’s free Storytime programming returns at Summer for the City! Curated by The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts—which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year—Storytime events feature a children’s book reading accompanied by live music, dance, or theater, engaging kids of all ages. As part of Summer for the City’s Brazil Week, the Library for the Performing Arts has invited Brazilian dancer Ingrid Silva to read her children’s book A bailarina que pintava suas sapatilhas, or The Ballerina Who Painted Her Ballet Shoes. The book tells the story of Silva’s journey in ballet, from her childhood in the suburbs of Rio de Janeiro to her experience at the Dance Theatre of Harlem in New York, when she became a leading dancer and known worldwide. Silva tells how she faced racial and social prejudice and inspires children to discover themselves through her journey showing that dance is for everyone. Join us for this inspirational Storytime! There are two ways to access this free event: 1. General Admission, first-come first-served. Just show up! 2. Fast Track opening the Monday before the event at noon.

Presented in collaboration with The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts
