June Creative Breaks at Little Island

Visitors of all ages are encouraged to participate in Creative Breaks, free artmaking activities (dance, music, visual art and more!) in the park every Wednesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Wednesday
Creative Break: Build a Kite – Join us on Wednesdays for an artmaking activity inspired by the nature of Little Island. We’ll supply the materials and the instructions; you create the art! For the month of June, you can make and fly your own bird shaped kite!
Thursday
Creative Break: Music and Dance with Stephanie Peña and Michael Morales -Immerse yourself in Latin rhythms on Thursdays! Dance into the weekend with Little Island teaching artist Stephanie Peña. She’ll get you moving and grooving to the merengue, bachata, salsa and more! If dancing in public is not your style, then pick up a drum and make your own beats with drummer Michael Morales. Movers and shakers of all abilities welcome!
Friday
Creative Break: Visual Arts with Georgie Flores – On Fridays come paint in the park! Our teaching artist Georgie Flores will teach you how to paint an image with watercolors inspired by the landscape and horticulture of Little Island. Whether you are young or young at heart this class is designed for artists of every age.
Saturday
Creative Break: Silly Billy – Join us for Family Day on Saturdays! Every Saturday in June, enjoy the hilarious antics of Silly Billy, an award-winning children’s magician. With his unique blend of magic and comedy, Silly Billy is sure to delight kids and families alike. Come laugh, marvel and enjoy a magical day at the park!

Creative Break: Hudson River Park at Little Island

Do you ever wonder what lives in the Hudson River? Come find out with our partner Hudson River Park! Get up close and personal with the wildlife of the Hudson River Estuary and even get a chance to see or touch some of the critters such as striped bass, black sea bass, oyster toadfish or lined seahorses.
Creative Community with Westbeth Artists Housing

As part of our ongoing Community Partnership with Westbeth Artists Housing, Little Island proudly showcases art-based programs and talented artists from this organization. During Westbeth Day, visitors will have the opportunity to experience the diverse talents of artists from Westbeth. The event will feature a dynamic array of performers, including singers, dancers, painters, poets, writers and more, providing a vibrant celebration of creativity within our community.
