Hofstra University Science and Engineering Festival of Long Island
Hofstra University is hosting the first Science and Engineering Festival of Long Island (SEFLI). Presented by Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Fred DeMatteis School of Engineering and Applied Science, the Department of Physics and Astronomy, and the coordinator of Astronomy Outreach, SEFLI’s mission is to engage learners of every age with the wonders of science and the joy of scientific discovery. There will be a wide variety of exhibits and hands-on activities coordinated by Long Island educational institutions, museums, companies and industries, professional societies, scientific laboratories, and healthcare organizations.
These include:
Atomic spectra tubes
Augmented reality demonstration that simulates driving a rover on Mars
Black hole demonstration
Celestial observations using different kinds of telescopes
Displays and explanations of innovative medical research
Microscopic viewings of algae and plankton from Long Island ponds
Robotics demonstrations
Rock and fossil identifications
