Hands-On Art Family Workshops with Beam Center

Create some mood glasses, fabric jewelry, stained glass ornament, and more to celebrate the “Catalyst” exhibit.
Stained Glass from 10 am – 12 pm: Inspired by the ways in which light will engage with the Big Project we will be building at Beam Camp this summer, Welcome Beacon designed by Mayowa Tomori and Michael Runge, we will be making small, stained glass pendants with STEAM Event attendees. The project will be a combination of copper bending, arranging glass into designs, and assembly of the pendants through soldering.
Mood Glasses from 1:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Mood Glasses are cardboard glasses that enable wearers to mix, match and combine different colors and lenses based on how they’re feeling on any given day, and to see the world through a new light. The Mood Glasses project is designed and facilitated by Project Leaders, a team of high school students and recent graduates who are trained by Beam Center in a practice of designing and leading hands-on projects for children.
Dancing Oobleck: If weather permits, Project Leaders will also be making Oobleck bounce on a speaker in front of the gallery using the frequency of sound to control the movement of this non-Newtonian substance.
