HALLOWEEN NIGHT: LIVE PODCAST RECORDING OF LUCIÉRNAGAS BY JAVIER RIVERA DEBRUIN
The Parsnip Ship (Artistic Director/Host, Iyvon E.) announces a free in-person podcast recording of LUCIÉRNAGAS, the NY Times Recommended play by Javier Rivera DeBruin (they/them). The event will be held Monday, October 31st, 2022 at The Mark O’Donnell Theater in Downtown Brooklyn (160 Schermerhorn St.) at 7:30pm. The play, directed by Rebecca Aparicio (she/her), will feature cast members Maribel Martinez (she/her), Imani Russell (they/them), Yohanna Florentino (she/her), Carol Cadby (she/her), Gary Dooley (he/him) and Saul Nache (he/him). Throughout the duration of the recording, music will be performed by Liberian-American multidisciplinary creator and recording artist Vie Darling (they/them). Guests can also look forward to a live interview between host Iyvon E. (she/her) and playwright Javier Rivera DeBruin.
A celebration of Mexican, Afro-Latina and Indigenous women as well as an examination of inherited trauma through reflection, LUCIÉRNAGAS follows Mal who inherits a mysterious cabin in the woods after the death of her grandmother. Reunited with her estranged mother Silvia, they parse through possessions, ghosts, and long held family secrets over the course of a weekend the two of them won’t soon forget. LUCIÉRNAGAS is a play about shadows: our own, and those of our family. It is a play about heritage, forgiveness, and legacy that passes between women in a diaspora.
