Found Sound Drum Kit Creation

May 13, 4 pm.

Ever tapped on a table and thought, “That’s a good snare”?

This experimental and fun program is all about transforming everyday sounds into a custom digital drum kit. Participants will explore the studio and library to record unique sounds—claps, taps, rustling pages, closing books—and then learn how to edit, process, and assign them to pads using a sampler or drum machine.

In This Program You Will Learn:

Field recording basics (with portable recorders or phones)
Sound editing and processing techniques
Using unconventional sounds to create rhythm and groove
Artistic experimentation using everyday materials

By the end of the session, you’ll have your very own quirky, one-of-a-kind drum kit to use in future music projects.

This program is made possible by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (SNF).
