Events for Youth & Families: Women’s History Month
In celebration of Women’s History Month at the Brooklyn Public Library, this special performance honors the artistry, strength, and cultural legacy of women through three contrasting works drawn from Chinese and Asian dance traditions. The program moves from radiant elegance to intimate lyricism and, finally, to bold heroism—offering audiences a vivid and accessible way to reflect on women’s contributions across cultures and throughout history.
The performannce features the shimmering beauty of Peacock Dance, a work that evokes grace, renewal, and the poetic refinement of movement inspired by the natural world. It is paired with a Dai Duet from Yunnan, shaped by the fluidity and delicacy associated with the Dai people, where sculptural hands, soft phrasing, and grounded musicality suggest harmony, tenderness, and human connection. Completing the program is The Way of Fire, a dynamic and commanding portrayal of female warriors that celebrates courage, resolve, and resilience through athletic movement and rhythmic intensity.
