Civil Rights Community Day

The IDEAL School of Manhattan will host its annual Civil Rights Community Day showcasing the school’s commitment to civil rights and social justice. The guest speaker this year will be Emmy award-winning journalist Cheryl Wills. Ms. Wills is an anchor on New York Tonight and NY1 at Ten on Spectrum News NY1. Ms. Wills is also an author, whose work includes a series of books about her great-great-great-grandfather, Sandy Wills – an enslaved Tennessee man who fought for his freedom during the American Civil War. Joining Ms. Wills will be her brother Clarence “Big Boy” Wills, an artist with autism who interacts with the world by drawing cartoon characters. Mr. Wills is the subject of this book from Lighswitch Learning. Also, during the event, IDEAL’s Upper School students will present their Civil Rights Museum research projects. Advanced registration required. Please note that you will need to show a government ID to attend the event.
