Chickenshed NYC, known for innovative children’s theatre productions devised by its Players, announces its latest musical, Both Sides Now.

Step into a time-traveling, family-friendly jukebox musical packed with great songs and powerful storytelling. Created by Chickenshed NYC’s talented young performers, Both Sides Now follows two generations of campers, from 1975 and 2025, as they uncover the timeless power of music, memory, and community. Suitable for ages 5+, this heartwarming, high-energy production proves some stories—and camps—are worth saving.

Chickenshed NYC’s CEO Elaine Finkletaub shares, “At Chickenshed NYC, we always integrate elements of science into our creative process. This year, we asked: What happens when you invite AI into the rehearsal room? This sparked thought-provoking exploration and lively discussions that included questions about creativity and authorship as well as the ethical and environmental implications of using AI in the arts.

Since its founding in 2018, Chickenshed NYC has been committed to fostering creativity and community through its unique philosophy. With a focus on bringing together children and teens from diverse backgrounds, both with and without disabilities. Artistic Director Cyndi Steele-Harrod notes, “Chickenshed NYC is guided by the belief that when everyone is included, everyone flourishes. It’s rewarding to see how our work with children and communities inspires empathy, collaboration, and leadership among our participants while leaving a lasting impact on our audiences—opening hearts, shifting perspectives, and celebrating what’s possible when no one is left out.”
