
Art in Action! Women’s History Month Artists
Learn about famous female artists and recreate an inspired work of art.
March 4: Clementine Hunter was a self taught artist who labored her entire life on plantations in central Louisiana. She painted at night, after working all day in the plantation house. She used whatever surfaces she could find, drawing and painting on canvas, wood, gourds, paper, snuff boxes, wine bottles, iron pots, cutting boards, and plastic milk jugs.
March 11: Mickalene Thomas is a contemporary African-American visual artist best known as a painter of complex works using rhinestones, acrylic, and enamel.
March 18: Georgia O’Keefe is known as the mother of American modernism. She challenged conventional art styles by experimenting with abstract art.
March 25: Faith Ringgold was an American painter, author, mixed media sculptor, performance artist, and intersectional activist. She is best known for her narrative quilts.
This is a family program for adults, teens and children ages 6-12 with a parent/caregiver in attendance.
