Alley Pond Environmental Center’s Community Open House and Concert
The Alley Pond Environmental Center (APEC) invites people of all ages to attend a Community Open House and Concert to introduce its new, cutting-edge facility, a significant milestone for the organization as it enhances its capacity to provide environmental education and immersive experiences for the community.
The $26 million, LEED-certified building is a community resource and education center, featuring classrooms, a rainwater collection system, skylights and a geothermal heating system, and a collection of live animals.
Since its founding in 1972, APEC has been dedicated to educating guests about the importance of wetlands and the natural world, and the preservation of Alley Pond Park which surrounds the Center. During construction – which began in early 2020 – the organization moved into temporary space nearby.
APEC’s free Community Open House and Concert features a performance by Boomer Brothers, a guided walk, and activities for families and youth. The event runs from Noon to 4:00 PM, and the indoor concert is performed from 1:30 to 2:45 PM. Limited parking is available. The Center is at 229-10 Northern Boulevard, Douglaston, NY, 11362.
