A Celebration of Sprituals with Cheryl Willis Hudson and London Ladd

Beloved author and publisher Cheryl Willis Hudson and acclaimed artist London Ladd are the creators of the new picture book When I Hear Spirituals, in which a young Black girl connects with heritage, history, and a higher power through the lyrics of twelve beloved spirituals and seminal events in African American history.  At this celebratory event, the book’s depiction of the power of spirituals is amplified by the glorious music of the Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble, led by Janis Russell.  Through performance, reading, and discussion, this all-ages event aims to highlight the importance of spirituals Black American history in while offering the same range of emotions experienced in the book itself.

This is event is free and open to the public; RSVPs are requested but not required. Copies of When I Hear Spirituals available for sale at the event; a percentage of sales will be donated to support the Lafayette Inspirational Ensemble.
