Greenport’s annual Juneteenth Parade and Celebration will focus on the youth in our communities “Having Their Say: What Freedom, Equality and Justice Means to Them.”

Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, the North Fork Chapter of Coming to the Table, a national organization dedicated to racial healing, and the Southold Town Anti-Bias Task Force are pleased to announce the schedule for this year’s Juneteenth Parade and Celebration:

10am start at the Clinton Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church (610 Third Street, Greenport) with words from Pastor Natalie Wimberly and a blessing from the church elders.
11am: Parade, walking down Main Street, starting at the corner of Center Street, proceeding to Front Street and ending at Mitchell Park.
12pm: Juneteenth Celebration and program includes:
A performance by Batalá, an Afro Brazilian drumming group from Brooklyn.
A performance by the Harambee Dance Company, a NYC-based group that “weaves traditional African and contemporary dance and music to share stories reflective of our diverse cultures” generously sponsored by CAST.
Musical performances by gospel group Jus B Cuz and other local musicians; youth lead dance and Spoken Word poetry performances.
The announcement of the winners of a North Fork school wide essay and art contest explaining what Freedom, Justice and Equality means to our youth.
2pm: Art installation and Community Quilt Reveal at the North Fork Art Center, which has generously donated the use of its lobby and gallery space to present the submissions from the North Fork Youth Juneteenth art and essay contest.
