90-Second Newbery Film Festival

February 10, 1 pm2:30 pm.
Free

The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which kid filmmakers create short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery award-winning books in just a few minutes. Creative takes are encouraged: think Charlotte’s Web as a horror movie, or The Tale of Desperaux as a musical!

The screening is at 1 pm at the central branch of the Brooklyn Public Library (in the Dweck Auditorium), hosted by film festival founder James Kennedy (author of The Order of Odd-Fish) and Newbery Honor winner Rita Williams-Garcia (One Crazy Summer and more).

They’ll be showing movies made by kids from New York and some of the best from around the country.

Tickets are free! However, it is recommended to reserve your seat in advance to ensure admittance. Although a reservation is recommended, you don’t have to bring a printed ticket.

(Interested in making your own 90-Second Newbery movie? Great! The deadline is January 26, 2024. You can find complete details, plus video resources, at the 90-Second Newbery website)

Major support is provided by the Brooklyn Public Library.
